Opportunities for Students

Students of Pharmacy, Biotechnology (FH), or related disciplines with a strong organic-preparative background and the willingness to perform synthetic chemistry are welcomed for doing their thesis (diploma, bachelor, etc.) in the Holzergroup.

You will be working in a highly motivated group in a friendly working atmosphere and you will experience several synthetic and analytical methods (NMR, MS, etc.) in both classic and modern organic chemistry as well as general knowledge including literature research in databases.

In correspondence to our research focus, the topic of your work will be based on methods for the synthesis and functionalization of heterocycles which may be used as building blocks for biologically active compounds.

The starting time of your work is up to you, but due to limited resources and to afford optimal coordination a personal registration (preferably 2–12 months before planned beginning) is highly recommended.

The time for the practical part (synthesis) of your work is limited to 3 (max. 4) months. You will be carefully assisted during your synthetic and analytical work as well as in the writing of your thesis (in German or in English). Although your written thesis will be corrected normally within few weeks it is recommended to keep back some final exams for the time of correction, administration, and printing of your thesis to avoid standby time.

International applicants (no PhD or diploma students – only post-docs possible!) require a scholarship or grant from their home institution/country for the whole time of their research in the Holzer-Group! Thus, applicants without a (confirmed) funding can not be considered!

If you are interested or if you have more questions feel free to contact Prof. Wolfgang Holzer for further information.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
